Strawberry cake from The Cake Stall

I bought this 500g strawberry cake from my local ALDI discount supermarket for only $5, which was a huge bargain for a cake of this size. Ever since the new ALDI supermarket was opened in my suburb some months ago, I've been buying most of my groceries mainly from there, I'm glad I switched to ALDI, they certainly live up to their reputation as a worldwide discount supermarket chain, everything is so much cheaper at ALDI compared to all the other supermarket outlets in Australia! Although there's still certain products ALDI don't sell or only have inferior quality of, so I still occasionally buy these products from my local Woolworths supermarket or Big W discount department store.

Anyway, these strawberry cakes from The Cake Stall are surprisingly quite difficult to buy because apparently they sell out very quickly, usually you have to be at the ALDI store during the morning to get your hands on one of these cakes, because they tend to sell out by noon, or sometimes even earlier than that. And I have never seen any of The Cake Stall's products at other supermarkets, which leads me to believe that it is probably another brand exclusive only to ADLI.
Curious about its apparent popularity, I decided to try this strawberry cake and find out for myself what all the fuss was about, and it looked appetising enough anyway:

Imei 'Choco Roll' - Taro

For anyone who has followed my food review blog for quite some time will know that I don't often post reviews about food & snacks that are NOT from Japan, but that does not mean I don't like snacks from the rest of the world. There's no doubt I love Japanese food and snacks, but as a food junkie, pigging on snacks has always been a guilty pleasure of mineregardless of which country these snacks come from. Although I mostly post reviews about various food (mainly snacks & sweets) from Japan, in reality I probably eat non-Japanese snacks more frequently, this is because authentic Japanese snacks & sweets are much harder and rarer to find outside Japan, they are mainly only available at authentic Japanese groceries (and there are not too many of them outside Japan anyway)...whereas you can find Western and other Asian snacks virtually everywhere. I think it's because Japanese snacks are so limited & harder to find outside Japan that makes them uniquely different and more interesting for me to review about
However I always try not to forget to review the various non-Japanese snacks at least once in a while (even though I can be quite forgetful at times)...however, since it has been more than a year since I last posted a review about a snack that is not from Japan, I decided it's about time I do so again...before I forget again!

Anyway, staying in the Asia region of the world, today I will be reviewing a snack I bought from my local Chinese grocery called 'Choco Roll' by Imei; it's a Taiwanese confectionery manufacturer. I saw only 2 different flavours of the Choco Roll on the self in the snack aisle so I bought both, this is the taro flavour:

Bourbon 'Petit' series - mini Black cocoa & Kinako biscuits!

Posted by Linda on 02. 2013 0 comments
Since I had literally abandoned this blog (again) for more than a month, I decided to post 2 snack reviews today to make up for the lack of recent updates and yes, today I will be reviewing 2 more snacks from Bourbon's 'Petit' series, I just can't help it, I love these little yummy delights too much!

Today I will be reviewing the petit black cocoa cookies/biscuits and the kinako wafer biscuits from the series, firstly here's the mini black cocoa biscuits:

these cute little biscuits are basically cocoa biscuits with white vanilla cream in the center, they are like a miniature version of the famous 'Oreo' biscuits...but the flavours and textures are abit different. I think these mini cocoa biscuits have a slightly softer texture and are slightly less sweet compared to the standard Oreo biscuits, however the flavours were very good. And the high concentration of the cocoa content gave the biscuits a very nice rich black colour.
Overall, although these mini black cocoa biscuits are very basic, they were still yummy nonetheless, the texture of the biscuits was good; not too hard and not too soft with a nice soft crunch to them, and the balance of the sweetness was perfect; not too sweet. These biscuits have also become 1 of my favorite snack types in Bourbon's 'Petit' series!

My rating (overall):

now let's move onto the mini Kinako wafer biscuits...

a enthusiastic foodie from Australia!

I love food, especially desserts & sweets, junk food and Japanese cuisine! But I'm a foodie who loves all kinds of good food in general ^_^
I like to review & critique about various food, sweets, snacks & drinks I have tasted/tried based on my OWN personal opinion & preferences. So you may not agree with some of my opinions & ratings.

Please take note that I am not a serious food "critic", reviewing & critiquing foods is merely a hobby I like to do in my free time ^_^

Although the 'Kit Kat' confection originates in England & is produced worldwide by Nestlé (and Hershey in the US only), most of the KK bars I review about are Japanese flavours from Nestlé Japan.
