'My Cube' gum - Cola

Posted by Linda on 28. 2011 0 comments 0 trackback
'My Cube' is a chewing gum brand from Lotte, I don't think it's a new brand from the company, as I recall there was a cube version released as part of Lotte's '+X' chewing gum range (which seem to have ceased production) back in 2008 I think. 'My Cube' appears to be just a newer "revamped" version of the older +X Cube chewing gum.
Anyway, this was my first experience with this particular chewing gum brand, I like Lotte's 'Xylitol' chewing gum, so I decided to give this one a try.
So for my first My Cube experience, I decided to go for the Cola flavor:

the gums came in a little flip open case that you can re-seal to sustain the freshness. The instant I opened up the packet I was welcomed by the pleasant smell of cola, each piece of soft chewing gum was encased in a cube shaped shell. Each had a generous amount of cola flavor as you bite and chew into them, refreshing your mouth with the smell of cola. But other than that, there's really nothing special about this particular gum.
I've tried other gums over the years which I've savored and enjoyed a lot more, so this is certainly not a "must-try" gum in my opinion.

Kit Kat - Hojicha

Hojicha is a popular roasted type of tea in Japan, it's different to Matcha and other types of Japanese green teas, in the sense that Hojicha is roasted green tea leaves over charcoal on a very high temperature until the leaves turn reddish-brown. Once brewed, Hojicha has a reddish-brown colour, it's less bitter than green tea due to the loss of catechin content during the roasting process. But it has a very pleasant taste and aroma, and Hojicha was the inspiration for this new limited edition and VERY RARE regional flavor of Kit Kat!

the classic wafers were coated by a thick layer of pleasant brown chocolate infused with a generous and very accurate amount of Hojicha flavor, with more sweet Hojicha flavor choc between the wafers. The choc coating was melt in your mouth, highly recommended! This has just been added to my list of favorite KK flavors!

My rating (overall):

I was lucky to have found this particular flavor of KK, it's VERY RARE in Japan, only available in a small region in Japan! And it's only available for order online @ NapaJapan!

it is quite expensive, US$2.49 for just 1 mini bar of this, but considering just how rare this particular KK is, I think the price is quite reasonable...even if you are put off by the price, for me, it was an amazing experience! And I think it's well worth a try at least! I will definitely order this flavor again! But of course not frequently because of the price, however I will order it again because of how much I loved the taste

'Sakuma' candy drops - Cheesecake

Don't you just love cheesecake? And who doesn't love candy? So what do you get when you combine them both? Cheesecake Sakuma drops!

I've become so interested in these Sakuma drop candies, amazed at the vast range of unique & different flavors for these candy drops. So when I saw they have a cheesecake flavor one from the city of Kobe, I jumped up for joy because I love cheesecake!
As soon as I popped one candy into my mouth, a burst of pleasant sweetness overwhelmed my tastebuds!
Among all the unusual and strange flavors of Sakuma drops, these cheesecake ones actually seem more "normal", because it's an adaption of a sweet food, while most other Sakuma drops are adapted from various savory foods. It's fascinating with the vast amount of unique flavors for Sakuma drops, but the sweet ones are always the best! This cheesecake flavor is the best Sakuma drops flavor I have tried so far!

'Jagariko' potato sticks - Salad

Posted by Linda on 04. 2011 0 comments 0 trackback
'Jagariko' is the name of this popular potato stick snack brand from Calbee (the most recognized Japanese chips manufacturer)...this was my first encounter with the brand, although I did hear quite a lot about the brand beforehand. Anyway, so I ordered the salad flavor @ NapaJapan for my first Jagariko experience:
jagariko-salad1.jpg jagariko-salad2.jpg
I was rather surprised at how over-cooked those potato sticks were, resulting in the sticks being hard and dry...which was a bit of a disappointment for me, as I like my potato sticks to be just like french fries, retaining some of its moist, soft flesh. But these potato sticks were fried so intensely right through. Also, the sticks were much shorter, and the container was much smaller than I had expected.
But all is not lost, because of the intensity of the frying of the potato sticks, they were amazingly crunchy & crispy, and the seasonings were really nice.

My rating (overall):

I would've given it 5 stars, but I took some points off for the potato sticks being too over-cooked for my taste, and with the amount of the sticks being much too less than I had expected.
